A Warm Welcome from HFA President Rhonda Bingham

Hume-Fogg Academic Magnet High School families, welcome to the 2026–2027 school year. We are thrilled to have you as a part of the Hume-Fogg Association and the Hume-Fogg community. As we begin this new year together, please allow me to introduce the Association and explain a little about how the PTO organization plans to support you and our school this year.

The Hume-Fogg Association is the organization that serves Hume-Fogg Academic Magnet High School as its PTO. Last year, we provided essential funds for professional development for our teachers and much needed funds to each of our departments, our sports teams, and our fine arts programs. We also provided funds to appreciate perhaps the most wonderful part of Hume-Fogg, our amazing teachers. The board and committees of the HFA have been working hard over the summer to ensure we build on all the wonderful accomplishments of the last several years.

Financially, we manage our funds each year with a balanced budget and exceed our budget goals. We have developed a recurring revenue stream with our back parking lot, and you can help by either parking there for weekend events or encouraging your friends and family to park there. We will be kicking off our annual INVEST campaign and want you to help your student by contributing to INVEST.

The board has developed a strategic plan and will roll out the plan to the Association this school year. We hope to be able to support teachers and students in measured and specific ways to increase their instructional resources and capabilities to our students.

Thankfully, we have the best teachers and staff of any high school and through events like our kick-off breakfast, teacher training brunch and the amazing teacher appreciation week (in May), we will continue to show our teachers how much we appreciate all they do for our students.

Professionally, we want to provide opportunities for our teachers to continue learning new ways to instruct our students and share those with their teaching peers. We want the teachers to know that we believe in their professional development to expose our students to up-to-date educational techniques.

This year our Spirit Shop will be open every Wednesday during the fall so your family can purchase items to show your Blue Knight pride! We want to provide better communication through our new website and bring you information which spotlights interesting activities happening at the Castle in the classroom, on the field and stage, and help you get to know our administration and teachers.

We also want to provide more opportunities for families to gather, whether it be for Spirit Nights to benefit our school or happy hours to socialize and meet other parents.

We are forming an active Alumni Committee to locate Hume-Fogg Alumni and to communicate with them about the great things happening at Hume-Fogg every day. We are seeking sponsors who will partner with us, so we can continue great programs at Hume-Fogg including the Blue Knights Speaker Series. We are also working to put together a Sports Committee to help raise much needed funds for our sports teams which receive zero funding from the district.

As Nashville’s oldest public school, Hume-Fogg has previously been voted the number ONE public school in the state of Tennessee and designated as a Blue-Ribbon School multiple times. Under the leadership of our executive principal, Dr. Erin Cáceres, assistant principals, Mr. Rick Stanley and Dr. Tiphanie Farmer, and Dean of School, Jesse Blair, your student and your family continue to win the annual education lottery of a lifetime. Your student receives a private education at a public school cost.

Sincerely,

Rhonda Bingham
HFA President
